It all began in 1170 when a group of youth in England would go to the fields to play a “game of ball.” Aspects of the game can also be traced from a military manual dating back to the second century BC in China. The game was called Tsu’ Chu and it involved kicking a ball filled with hair and feathers. The object of the game was to get the ball into a small net while defending from attacks. According to one variation of the game, a player was not allowed to aim at his/her opponent. Additionally, the player had to use his/her feet, back, chest and shoulders to get the ball to the opponent’s net. The use of hands was not permitted. Another form of the game was the Japanese Kemari, which also originated from the Far East about 500-600 years later. Unlike Tsu’ Chu, the sport lacked competitiveness and struggle to possess the ball. With Japanese Kemari, players stood in a circle and passed the ball to each other without letting it touch the ground.Variations of football have also been documented in the Greek, Egyptian and Roman society. In Rome, the game was played with a small ball and two teams on a rectangular field with a centre line and boundary lines. The object of the game was to get the ball to the opponent’s boundary lines.The game continued to become popular among players. If you love Harry Potter then you will love to play the game Qudditch. Quidditch is a game that is played by two teams each made up of seven players. In this game, there are two Beaters, three Chasers, one Seeker and one Keeper.In Quidditch, you have broomsticks that you must stay on throughout the course of the game. To play, you need four balls. There are two dodgeballs known as bludgers, a volleyball known as a quaffle and a small ball such as a tennis ball. The small ball is strapped to one player, this is known as the snitch.

How to Score Points

To score points in Quidditch, players have to get the volleyball (quaffle) through the hoops on the ends of the field. If you get the quaffle through a hoop, you score 10 points for your team. You can pass the quaffle to other players on your team to get it to the end of the field. Another way to score points is to catch the snitch that is attached to the player carrying it. You will score 30 points to your team if you catch the snitch.

How do Bludgers Work?

Bludgers are dodgeballs that are thrown at each other on the opposite team. If you are hit by a bludger, you must get of your broomstick and tag a hoop based at the end of the field before you can continue playing.

Vuoden 2014 MM-kisat olivat oikea Suomen ja Ruotsin kaksintaistelu. Suomen miesten 18+2 salibandymaajoukkue aloitti pelinsä Göteborgissa Euroopan A-lohkossa yhdessä Ruotsin, Latvian ja Saksan kanssa. Jälleen kerran Suomi kuului kirkkaasti mitalisuosikkeihin ja miehet poistuivat mittelöistä hopea kaulassa. Tässä joukkueessa olikin paljon potentiaalia ja MM-kisojen ensikertalaisia, kuten Miko Kailiala, Lauri Stenfors sekä Nico Salo. Suomen riveissä oli myös salibandyikoni Mika Kohonen, pitäen harteillaan jälleen joukkueen nestorin viittaa 37-vuotiaana veteraanina.Finaalissa nähtiin kaksi muita selkeästi parempaa joukkuetta, kun puolivälierissä Ruotsi selätti Viron murskalukemin 17-0 ja Suomi tiputti Norjan 6-1. Välierissä jännitys vain tiivistyi, kun Ruotsi näytti taivaan ja maan merkit Sveitsille luvuin 10-1 ja Suomi pelasi Tsekin ulos lukemin 6-3. Pelisivusto Betsafe ennusti jo ennen kisojen alkamista Ruotsin ennakkosuosikiksi, veikaten seuraavaksi eniten suomalaisten mestaruutta. Lopulta nämä joukkueet kohtasivatkin loppuottelussa. Tiukassa kamppailussa Ruotsi vei lopulta 3-2 voiton Suomesta. Ruotsi hallitsi kiistatta ottelua, mutta suomalaiset saivat myös taisteltua itselleen riittävästi hyviä maalintekopaikkoja. Valitettavasti tehottomuus ratkaisuhetkillä kostautui kuitenkin raskaasti, vaikka Suomi pääsi hallitsemaan ottelua paikoittain, laittaen Ruotsin paineet ja luottamuksen omaan pelaamiseensa koetukselle. Ruotsi kuitenkin kesti kaiken kotiyleisön edessä ja ansaitsi mestaruutensa suurimmalla vahvuudellaan eli pallollisella pelaamisella. Suomen ykköskentän luottopuolustaja Juha Kivilehto tiivisti asian hyvin: ”Emme pystyneet olemaan pallon kanssa niin hyviä, kuin olisi pitänyt olla”. Suomen loistavan avauksen jälkeen kolmanteen erään lähdettiin tasatilanteesta, jolloin Ruotsi siirtyi ottelussa ensimmäisen kerran johtoon 47 minuutin pelin jälkeen Henrik Stenbergin irtopallon ansioista. Tämä riitti lopulta ratkaisemaan mestaruuden.Ruotsi pitää kiistatta käsissään salibandyn suurinta kultamitalikokoelmaa, sillä joukkue on voittanut peräti kahdeksan maailmanmestaruutta ja kaksi MM-hopeaa. Ruotsi on komeillut jo kauan salibandyn maailmanrankingin kärkisijoilla. On suomipoikakin saanut maistaa kultaa hampaidensa välissä vuosina 2012 ja 2010, kun Ruotsi kyettiin vihdoinkin syrjäyttämään valtiaan paikalta.Nyt 2015 on Suomen naisten vuoro näyttää, mihin he pystyvät ja toivottavasti saamme juhlia vihdoin kultaa ja maksaa Ruotsille vanhoja kalavelkoja takaisin!
