Exciting new developments in sports betting
March 18th, 2019 by Sophie Glover V

Sports betting has been around for a long time, but in recent years it has gone through a huge transformation to adapt to the changing world we live in. Once of the most exciting new developments in sports betting is the introduction of mobile betting apps. There are millions of people in the world who do not have access to fixed line internet, but nearly everyone nowadays has a smartphone. And with the latest technology all those individuals now have access to sports betting via a smartphone app. In fact, nearly every notable online sports betting firm offers a mobile facility. Another exciting new development is the use of machine learning to predict the outcome of sports events. Machine learning models nowadays make real time predictions based on data from many different sources, e.g. the weather, player performance, fan sentiment and others. Some of these models are very promising, and have delivered results notably better than domain experts. The downside is that these models use a huge amount of data that is both well organised and comparable before a meaningful prediction can be made – and most of us simply don’t have access to this amount of data. They are, however, very useful for predicting the results of Esports matches, where this type of data is usually available. Online sports betting has made is possible for fans who live in even the remotest corners of the world to take part in the fun. Something that has played a major role in making this possible is the advent of online payment systems such as Paypal, Skrill, electronic bank transfers etc. Another exciting new development is that some online sports betting firms are now also starting to accept crypto currencies as a form of payment. A quick Google search will bring up a long list of candidates.
